About our Annual Horse Show

In 2005, one hundred ninety six (196) Fairfield County 4-H volunteers contributed 8,733 hours

The goals of the 4-H Benefit Horse Show are to:
• raise funds to support the 4-H program throughout the year;
• provide a leadership opportunities for 4-H teens and adults;
• provide a quality and safe schooling show for local horse enthusiasts

Funds raised today support:
• 4-H groups where life skill development such as - creative thinking, working with others, public speaking, personal responsibility, record keeping, goal setting, decision making takes place on a regular basis
• 4-H after-school activities
• 4-H Club community service projects
• Scholarships for 4-H teens attending citizenship programs in Washington D.C.
• 4-H Youth entrepreneurship
• Fairfield County 4-H website
• Volunteer recruitment and training
• Leadership training-running meetings, responsible committee membership, planning/organizing activities

100% of the proceeds from this Show supports all our 4-H education programs for youth and volunteers.

Year-End Special Awards

SPECIAL AWARDS
The high point horse/rider combination from both the Spring Open and Fall Nutmeg Shows will receive a special year-end award. To be eligible, riders must enter the entire division. The following divisions have Year-End Awards:

The Pleasure Horse/Pony Division is sponsored by Another Farm, Woodbury.
Kentucky Hunter Classic Division is sponsored by All the King’s Horses, Ridgefield. All classes to 8th place.
The Low Hunter Division is sponsored by Clearview Farm, Sandy Hook. The Year-End winner will receive The Sam I Am Memorial Trophy.
The Baby Green Division is sponsored by Sunnybrook Farm, Newtown.
The Local Hunter Division is sponsored by FC 4-H.

Rules and Regulations

In case of rain call (203) 207-3264 after 6:30 a.m. for recorded announcement. Entry fee is $12/class. Rain date is June 21.

For the budget conscious, enter 3 or more classes and get an additional class for $5.

WANT to SHORTEN your time at the secretary’s booth? Although you will still need to present proof of current rabies and negative coggins upon entering the grounds and at the booth (see rules and reg. #3) faxing a copy of your coggins and rabies to the appropriate secretary will speed up your registration process show day.

1. For convenience of riders and our secretaries an entry form is included in the prize list. For ALL ENTRIES, please complete the entry form and fax to the appropriate Secretary. If unable to fax, please call. Trainers will be sent a registration packet for easy group registration.

2. ALL ENTRIES are due BEFORE 6 P.M., THURSDAY, 5/14/2009. Late entries will be charged an additional $12 fee per horse/rider combination. Classes are $12.00 per class except gymkhana ($5) and Kentucky Hunter ($45).

3. Certificate (not a bill) of current (within 12 months) rabies vaccination and proof of negative coggins is required. It must be shown at the gate and presented to secretary before receiving number.

4. Riders must be dressed appropriately. All Juniors must wear ASTM approved hats with harness. Hard hats with harness required on ALL riders in fences and gymkhana classes. Western riders will not be penalized for wearing English hats. Chaps are required in Horsemanship classes.

5. Martingales are not allowed in flat classes. Boots and bandages allowed in Equitation/Horsemanship and Reining. Boots and bandages are not allowed for Hunter Divisions.

6. A trophy/six ribbons is awarded in each class. Championship and Reserve ribbons will be awarded in divisions, based on accumulated points. Classes in the Kentucky Hunter Classic Division - to 8th place.

7. Points will be scored 5-3-2-1. Point value for classes with less than 5 entries will be adjusted by the show secretary. Year end awards are based on points in both Spring Benefit and Fall Nutmeg Shows acquired by the same horse/rider combination.

8. Show committee reserves the right to combine/split/cancel classes.

9. Every animal entered for competition shall be under the control of the Horse Show Committee, but the CES/4-H will in no way be responsible for damage that may occur and it shall be a condition of entry that each exhibitor shall hold the CES/4-H and the Horse Show Committee blameless for any loss/accident that may occur.

10. This show is governed by USEF rules. The show committee will be responsible for their interpretation.

11. ALL DOGS ON THE GROUNDS MUST BE LEASHED!

12. Lunging and riding is limited to designated areas. No stallions to be shown by juniors.

13. Classes will be held a MAXIMUM of 5 minutes for rider and/or tack changes. The show management will hold classes for conflicts at their own discretion.

14. PARKING is at a premium. Please follow directions of the show management. CARS may park only in designated areas. ALL VEHICLES must enter show grounds via Route 6 (Stony Hill Road) entrance. Tents, awnings and canopies attached to trailers or vehicles are not allowed.

15. Classes must be paid for either when numbers are picked up or a blank signed check must be left with the secretary.

16. Unruly horses, unmarked kickers and unfit horses may be asked to leave at the judge's discretion.

17. Individual tests may be conducted in any class.

18. For your information-Equitation/horsemanship classes are judged on the rider. Pleasure classes are judged on the horse. Hunter classes are judged on the horse.

Directions to Bethel Extension Center

Coming West on I84 take Exit 9. At bottom of ramp turn left. Go 1/2 mile to traffic light, turn right. Proceed 1.5 miles West on Route 6 to traffic light. Extension Center is fifth building on left passed the traffic light. (67 Stony Hill Road)

Coming East on I84 take Exit 8. At top of ramp go across the inter-section. Continue East on Route 6 for 1.6 miles. The Extension Center is first building on the right passed the Stony Hill Fire House. Look for banner sign in front of building.
