The Stamford Explorers 4-H Club was recognized as an Outstanding Youth
Volunteer Group award winner at the annual Stamford Volunteer Day held
on Dec. 6, 2007 by the Volunteer Center of Southwestern Fairfield
County. They were nominated by Victor Rubell, the service coordinator
of Harboursite Senior Residence and Wormser Congregate Housing. These
are both Senior Residences were the 4-H club has been doing monthly
craft times with the seniors for the past 2 years. Some of the
projects the 4-H'ers have organized for the seniors are making
potpourri sachets, decorative glass plates, and placemats for
Thanksgiving. The most important part of this project has been the
relationships the 4-H'ers have developped with the seniors over the
past 2 years, which lead to a lot of hugs and kisses and laughs each
time they are there.
