Records can be accessed through the State 4-H web site. www.4-H.uconn.edu or the 4-H office in Bethel. Anyone receiving a blue ribbon is eligible to exhibit his or her record book at the Fair.
COUNTY BULB FUNDRAISER
HOW DOES THE 4-H BULB FUNDRAISER WORK?
4-Hers will sell bulbs via the Dutch Mill Bulbs Company with a brochure/order form. Once the bulbs come in, 4-Hers will deliver the bulbs to their customers. 4-Hers can pick their bulb orders up at various times and locations. Fairfield County 4-H will receive 50% of each order sold.
WHY ARE WE SELLING BULBS?
Although 4-H is part of UConn, each county is responsible for raising money that support all their county programs and activities - the Fair, scholarships for conferences, after school programs, teen conferences, public speaking, conferences and training clinics for volunteers, Fairfield County 4-H website, ribbons, awards, facility rentals and recognition for volunteers and members are just some of the things that we must fund. The County doesn’t charge membership fees, so all the money that we need must be raised. So, the Fairfield County 4-H Development Committee decided to add the spring flowering bulbs fundraiser to our calendar.
WHAT IS THE TIMELINEFOR THE 4-H BULB FUNDRAISER?
Dutch Mill Bulb flyers are mailed to 4-Hers in mid August
4-Hers sell bulbs from August 15- September 18, 2009.
All orders must be postmarked by September 18 and sent to Donna Liska, 112 Hanover Rd, Newtown, CT 06470
Bulbs will arrive about October 1
4-Hers will be notified when bulbs arrive and will able to pick up their orders in early to mid October at the following places: 4-H Office; CT’s Beardsley Zoo; The 4-H Fair
NUTMEG 4-H BENEFIT HORSE SHOW
September 13 marks the date of our fall annual horse show fundraiser. Volunteers are needed for the day. For this fundraiser, we only conduct the horse show. If you want to have fun and volunteer, please call/e-mail Ede.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ESE NEW ENGLAND CENTER ACTIVITY BOOTHS
EASTERN STATES EXPOSITION
Sunday, October 4
An activity booth is defined as an ongoing educational presentation involving one or two people that demonstrates to the public something learned in 4-H. The most successful activity booths are organized so that the fair goer can participate in the process - (i.e. make something and/or contribute to a larger process.) The presentation and/or process is repeated over and over again.
1. Booths operate continually from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m..
2. Participants should be scheduled so that the booth never closes down during the above hours. It takes at least six participants - 2 or 3 rotating shifts - to keep a booth operating.
3. Try to organize your booths so that the public can participate.
4. All participants should be knowledgeable about the exhibit subject matter and/or process so they can respond intelligently to the public's questions.
5. Clubs participating in the New England Center at Eastern States Exposition are not allowed to sell or take donations for anything.
6. Participants while working in the booth will not eat or drink.
7. Admission passes and parking passes will be provided and sent to you after we receive your participation request.
8. Meal tickets for lunch and supper will be provided for 4-H members and chaperons who would like to eat at the 4-H Dormitory. You will receive your meal tickets at the Exposition.
9. Adults are not allowed to work in the booths.
10. There is an opportunity to participate in the daily parade - generally the parade assembles at 4:00 p.m. If you would like to participate, please bring a club banner or sign which identifies your club for the parade audience.
11. Activity booths will consist of a 6 foot kidney shaped table about 30 inches high with room for two people behind it. Tables will have electric outlets, but you may need to bring extension cords. Each table will be set with its back to a wall, with a 48” x 48” homosote bulletin board on the wall.
12. Cost of materials, within reason, will be reimbursed upon submission of the necessary receipts. You can facilitate this process by turning in your receipts the day that you demonstrate.
13. Participants - while demonstrating - should use proper decorum to assure a positive image of 4-H is being projected to the fair going public.
By involving the fair going public in the activity you are presenting, you increase your acceptance and success.
